BARNSLEY SNAP UP ETUHU

Championship club Barnsley have moved in to secure the signing of former Portsmouth midfielder Kelvin Etuhu on a free transfer. Portsmouth were relegated from the Championship after suffering yet more financial trouble since dropping down from the Premier league.

They were expected to lose a number of players in order to comply with the even lower revenues from the third tier of English football. Kelvin Etuhu has been one of the first names to depart from Fratton Park following their relegation from the Championship. He has been linked with a number of Championship clubs, including Blackpool, but Barnsley have secured his signature.

Barnsley only managed to stay in the division due to the points deduction for Portsmouth. They will be hoping that they will not have to face relegation trouble once again next season. The signing of 24-year-old Kelvin Etuhu goes along way into improving the squad they had this season. Barnsley boss Keith Hill already knows Kelvin Etuhu from his days at Rochdale. Etuhu has played for the likes of Rochdale, Cardiff city, and Portsmouth. He has also played for Leicester City as well. Keith Hill has had the signing of Kelvin Etuhu is a major coup for the club.

“I’m just happy to be part of a new project and be back working with a manager that I’ve got a lot of faith in. They’re (the fans) going to get a player who will get them off their seats, definitely. They’ll get a lot of commitment from me as well,” said Kelvin Etuhu on the official website of Barnsley after announcing his signing for the club.

Meanwhile, Jim O’Brien is also likely to extend his stay at a Barnsley by agreeing to a two-year deal over the existing contract according to the football blog.
